Walnut Tree Depot

BexleyCo exchanged land contracts with the Council, on a subject to planning basis, to bring forward a development of quality new apartments for local people on the Walnut Tree Depot site in Erith, Kent.

An experienced design team have been appointed to bring forward a planning application. David Lawrence, from Flanagan Lawrence, architects said ‘We are excited to be working with BexleyCo on the mixed use redevelopment of the Walnut Tree Depot site with a scheme comprising private and affordable apartments, ground level commercial space and private and public landscaped spaces. The site is part of a wider Town Centre masterplan and, located at a key point on the route from Erith Station to the Town Centre, presents the opportunity to complete one part of the jigsaw with an elegant brick building which will sit comfortably in context with the adjacent college building and the Heritage Listed Carnegie Library. Not only providing housing for local people, the scheme develops the public realm to create a safe and attractive pedestrian environment. The mass of the building forms an edge to that public realm, places apartments away from the main road and creates a landscaped residents’ courtyard.’

Site clearance works have been undertaken to enable site surveys and investigations to take place. The aim is to submit a planning application of the site in Summer 2022.
